Swimmers’ skin care routines should start before you even head out to hop into the water.
Before heading to the pool, make sure you have a swim cap and a pair of goggles. Like the skin, our eyes can become irritated from chemicals in the water, resulting in itchy red eyes, so a physical barrier is the easiest way to help protect them. Be sure to check the seal of your goggles before you hop in so no water leaks in during your laps. Wearing a swim cap will also help prevent chlorine from soaking into your hair, and help to keep your scalp dry which can be particularly worthwhile if you are prone to an itchy or flaking scalp.
If you plan on swimming outdoors, be sure to take a broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF rating of 50+, and don’t forget to apply at least 20 minutes prior to heading outside.
