I have recently had an actinic keratosis removed and am now desperately want to get my skin protection right…any advice please?
What is the best treatment for sunburn?
How does your pore get blackheads
Hello,
Thank you for your question, we recommend that you choose a SPF50+ sunscreen in conjunction with Sun Smart Practices such as wearing a hat, sunglasses and staying in shade as much as possible.
Sunscreen is only as effective as it’s application. Most sunscreen failure is down to human error – the best sunscreen in the world won’t work if you don’t use it properly.
Are you using enough sunscreen?
A sunscreen with an SPF rating of 50+ could be much lower when applied if you don’t use enough. When sunscreens are tested, they’re applied at a rate of 2mg per square centimetre of skin, which equates to about 45mL (or nine teaspoons) for the average adult body. But many people use less, which substantially reduces effectiveness.
Sunscreens should be applied to clean, dry skin at least 15 minutes before going outside. This is to allow the sunscreen to adhere to the skin surface and function properly. Reapplication is recommended every 2 hours during sun exposure. Not applying sunscreen often enough, not reapplying after swimming or exercising, and inadvertently rubbing it off on clothing, towels and so on can also reduce its effectiveness.
The most recent recommendations are for 45mL, or 9 teaspoons:
1 teaspoon for head and neck
2 for the torso
1 for each arm
2 for each leg.
This gives a safety margin to ensure you’re properly covered
Hope this helps

Thanks for the article.
I enjoy the sunshine, but I am always worried about my skin. I like spending time and partying on the beach. I get so excited for the beach party that I always order a new bikini and designer sunglasses for it. I am always ready for beach vacations. Till date, I only used to apply sunscreen to protect my skin from the harmful effects of the sun. Now, I am quite relaxed after reading your article as I have now found the best solution to avoid skin damage. I hope to have a great vacation with no skin issues.
