What are pimples?
Acne, pimples or zits basically occurs when pores become clogged. Each pore opens to a follicle containing a hair and an oil gland. Normally, the oil is released by the gland helps protect the skin. But when these glands produce too much oil, the pores can become blocked; dirt, bacteria, and dead skin cells build up, causing a pimple. The blocked follicle encourages colonisation by the bacteria P. acnes, which in turn initiates an immune response producing inflammation. The blockage is called a plug or comedone.
Picking and squeezing pimples should be avoided, as this may result in scarring.
Think of treating acne as a marathon, not a sprint. Realistically, it takes 4 to 8 weeks to start seeing the benefits of treatment and up to 6 to 8 months overall.
As such there is no cure for acne, and acne needs to be allowed to run its course. When treatment is started the comedones will be at different points of development, so some will appear to resolve faster than others.
You may ask, what is the best product for acne then? Well, most treatments work by killing bacteria, drying up skin oils, or causing the top layer of your skin to peel. A good acne product is the Azclear Action range, which is a good treatment range that is strong on acne yet gentle on the skin. The range includes a foaming wash and medicated lotion. Along with the Azclear Action range, also consider a good cleansing and moisturising maintenance regimen, such as the QV Face range.
