Aveno Sativa Kernel Extract, The Skin Care Ingredient Your Skin Needs

Posted on : 01.12.2017

This time of year, skincare tips are generally focussed on using products with SPF, however by now year-round sun protection is hopefully second nature to you. So we thought you would appreciate an introduction to a useful ingredient which could be your skin saviour, particularly if your skin is prone to discomfort. This ingredient is our patented oat kernel extract, also known as aveno sativa kernel extract.

Avemide 15TM: The Scientific Application of Aveno Sativa Kernel Extract

Ego’s Avemide 15TM, is a gentle oat kernel extract, which helps to calm and soothe even the most sensitive skin. You can find Avemide 15 TM in some of our products like QV Face Ultra Calming Moisturiser and QV Face Rescue Gel, both specially formulated to help calm the skin and reduce discomfort.1

Avemide 15 TM itself is a purified and standardised extract of colloidal oatmeal that contains a complex mixture of flavonoids.2 Using a standardised aveno sativa kernel extract means that we know every time we formulate with this ingredient that you get the same amount in every product. If we choose to use the whole oatmeal we may end up with different amounts of the specific extract in every batch of products made. This is because different batches can be impacted by different environmental conditions, changes to fertilisers used on the crop, and even storage and transport time of the ingredient.

Spring, with its associated allergies and other sensitivities, is one of the times of year when your skin might be prone to discomfort more often. High pollen counts, increasing temperature and other common irritants in the air can often contribute to changes in the skin. But, luckily, a consistent routine incorporating skin care products containing Avemide 15 TM can act as an anti-oxidant and an antihistamine to help reduce skin sensitivity.1

Have a closer look at QV Face Ultra Calming Moisturiser or the QV Face Rescue Gel and how they differ below:

QV Face Ultra Calming Moisturiser

The QV Face Ultra Calming Moisturiser is a light-weight, non-greasy moisturiser which leaves your skin feeling soft and moisturised for up to 24 hours. The patented aveno sativa kernel extract, Avemide 15 TM, works alongside witch hazel to help provide relief to uncomfortable skin. This moisturiser is a lovely daily use product to help combat light skin discomfort after cleansing or exfoliating. Or, if you don’t like the feel of a thicker cream for night time, the QV Face Ultra Calming Moisturiser is a great choice to use before bed and helps to soothe skin after a day of makeup, sweat and environment challenges.

QV Face Rescue Gel

When your skin calls for something a little more concentrated, QV Face Rescue Gel can help to de-sensitise skin while delivering a hit of hydration. It helps to protect and restore skins natural appearance, maintain hydration and cool and tone the skin. QV Face Rescue Gel can be used as part of a daily routine before moisturising, or applied as needed on days when your skin just won’t cooperate.

To best incorporate these items into your routine start by cleansing the skin. Mornings a product like QV Face Gentle Foaming Cleanser feels lovely on the skin, and at night try something with a little more punch like, QV Face Exfoliating Polishwhich is gentle enough to use everyday on the skin. Layer with the rescue gel first, or skip straight to the QV Face Ultra Calming Moisturiser. Apply high SPF sunscreen after moisturising during the day; try a light, matte finish formulation such as SunSense Daily Face*. Finally, add a lip balm that contains high SPF such as SunSense Lip Balm.

If you’re anticipating that your skin will be feeling extra uncomfortable or exasperated, you could try leaving the QV Face Rescue Gel or QV Face Ultra Calming Moisturiser in the fridge for a few hours before applying to deliver an extra cool, soothing hit.
