Gentle Skincare Routine For Sensitive Complexions

Posted on : 05.05.2017

Red. Itchy. Stinging. If any of these words frequently spring to mind when describing the condition of your skin, then it’s most likely that you’re dealing with a sensitive complexion. When you have the type of skin that reacts to anything and everything, your skincare regimen must consist of mild products that won’t unnecessarily irritate the skin further. To get your skin back on track, try this gentle skincare routine…

Step 1: Cleansing

Caring for a sensitive complexion starts with a gentle cleanser. Look for low irritant formulas like the QV Face Gentle Foaming Cleanser as it’s free from fragrance, colour and soap. Your cleansing technique is also important when you’re dealing with sensitive skin. Aim to cleanse only once a day and to avoid agitation, apply the product gently with your fingertips, rinse off with warm (not hot) water and lightly pat the skin dry with a towel.

Step 2: Hydration Boost

In any gentle skincare routine, there’s scope to add a concentrated hydrating product to a gentle skin care regimen, provided you make a considered choice. A product like QV Face Rescue Gel is light, non comedogenic and free from fragrance and colour. The benefit of including a product like this is it can provide a refreshing moisture hit to counteract the agitation and discomfort often associated with sensitive skin.

Step 3: Mask

Everyone is entitled to a little skin pampering – even those with sensitive skin! Again, it all comes down to a thoughtfully selected product. For instance, a gentle mask like the QV Face Purifying Mask indulges sensitive skin, while also being free from colour and fragrance. This clay mask also contains nourishing safflower and anti-oxidant laden vitamin E, which can help calm uncomfortable skin. To avoid agitating the skin, apply and remove your mask using gentle strokes and warm water – you want the application to be as non-invasive as possible.

Step 4: Moisturise

Keeping the complexion hydrated is essential when you’re dealing with sensitive skin. The reason is because sensitive skin tends to have a compromised barrier, meaning irritants are more easily able to penetrate and therefore agitate the skin. A moisturiser can help in this regard by encouraging skin to form a natural surface barrier. Once again, opt for a calming formula free from irritating ingredients – particularly because you need to apply moisturiser daily. The new QV Face Ultra Calming Moisturiser has been designed for sensitive skin as the soothing formula is free from fragrance, colour, lanolin and propylene glycol.

Step 5: Sunscreen

Sunscreen can be difficult for those with sensitive skin and needing gentle skincare. All skin types require sun protection, but for those with sensitive skin it’s especially important. Sensitive skin is often already weakened and predisposed to feeling discomfort, so it needs all the protection it can get. Look for a gentle broad-spectrum sunscreen like SunSense Sensitive SPF 50+*, free of fragrance and chemical absorbers. And remember, sun rays can cause potential damage even on cooler days, so no matter what the forecast is, always apply sunscreen before heading out the door.
